10/6

This week in class we had a different lesson plan than usual, we had a guest speaker make a presentation on her thesis paper that was about the eating disorder anorexia. The presentation went over many online blogs that she had found while researching her topic. I learned that there is a community that supports this disease and promotes it. When I heard this I couldn’t believe it so I searched the Internet for myself and found out that is a bigger problem than I thought.

There are tons of websites that promote anorexia and have a discussion form where people struggling with this issue can help one another keep fighting to not eat. I followed this one trend that was trending on social media that was answering the following question “You know you have an eating disorder when”, many people have been answering it with horrible responses. The one response that caught my attention was when the user: byronicromance responded by saying, “you feel visibly fatter all over including your face and arms two minutes after eating one piece of bacon”.

I personally did not know how big of an issue this is on social media, especially the fact that people are supporting one another on anorexia. When coming across to the website where I found the hash tag trending, I was shocked. If Lili had not of came and talked about her thesis paper I would of never been aware of this topic. I hope people go out and seek the help they need.
