10/6

This week in class we had a different lesson plan than usual, we had a guest speaker make a presentation on her thesis paper that was about the eating disorder anorexia. The presentation went over many online blogs that she had found while researching her topic. I learned that there is a community that supports this disease and promotes it. When I heard this I couldn’t believe it so I searched the Internet for myself and found out that is a bigger problem than I thought.

There are tons of websites that promote anorexia and have a discussion form where people struggling with this issue can help one another keep fighting to not eat. I followed this one trend that was trending on social media that was answering the following question “You know you have an eating disorder when”, many people have been answering it with horrible responses. The one response that caught my attention was when the user: byronicromance responded by saying, “you feel visibly fatter all over including your face and arms two minutes after eating one piece of bacon”.

I personally did not know how big of an issue this is on social media, especially the fact that people are supporting one another on anorexia. When coming across to the website where I found the hash tag trending, I was shocked. If Lili had not of came and talked about her thesis paper I would of never been aware of this topic. I hope people go out and seek the help they need.

Group Project

A couple of weeks ago my group and I turned in our first project. My group and I worked together to create a Prezi on the celebrity Nelly and how he has been in some trouble lately. The topic of Nelly was tremendously trending on social media sites like Twitter, and Facebook, so that is why we chose it. Our group met together a couple of times to work on this project. We divided up and assigned each other roles that need to be done to complete our project. We created a Prezi that would give background history on the topic we were presenting; we also provided pictures and facts we found from reliable sources. Some of the main things we talked about in our presentation were the trending hash tags such as #Hotinherre and #SaveNelly. These hash tags were trending on twitter with the topic of Nelly being slammed by federal tax lien. Many of his hash tags came from his fans wanting to support him. All of the hash tags used by his fans gained social attention and started a trend. My over all thought on my group project is very satisfied and happy. I believe my group and I worked really hard and put in a lot of effort to achieve the greatest outcome.
